If you have a USB Mouse & running on WinXP the just plug it and it will automatically install the drivers or you can install it by just following the instrcutions...and if its a parallel or serial port mouse you can plug the mouse and start ur system it will install the drivers for itself.
If not just go to Add/Remove Hardware in Control Panel and Scan Hardware and you can then install the mouse.
Also FYI, WinXP has the inbuilt drivers for almost all types of mouses or if you have got the drivers CD with the mouse then well n gud!

most mouses are plug and play, but some come with extra software if the mouse has some extra buttons for special functions
there is a knack to fitting a new mouse,i found if you take the old mouse out while the p.c is still on the new mouse sometimes wont work
its allways best to turn off the p.c and swap over mouses then and then switch back on
i still prefer to use a ps2 connection for a mouse, and most mouses come with a usb>ps2 converter
optical mice are mostly used these days ,as the ball mice seem to stick and jump once they get dirt in the rollers
wireless mouses are not much good as they tend to go to sleep when left idle and will take a few seconds to start working ,a good basic optical mouse is all you need and can be bought for around £8
good luck

If you've got an installation CD that came with it use that. If windows update have supplied your system with identification tool just plug in and your PC will tell you that new appliance has been found and you can go ahead and use your mouse.

if it is a usb mouse, you will usually have to install a software from a cd. you will be given that cd. then you will be asked to restart your computer. after restart, simply plug in your mouse into a usb port and there you go. remember, never plug in a mouse without installing software first. cd first then mouse.

If USB should be plu and play. Otherwise it would come with a CD. Also depends on your Operating system. XP normally plug in and it will work.
