Is it on the sole or on the side of the hoof?

If it is on the side, it could be many different things, but if the horse isn't lame I would just watch it for a few days before calling the vet. Or even just call and ask if they think they should look at it.

If it is on the sole (especially towards the toe), it could be lamanitis and you should call the vet. With out treatment, lamanitis will only get worse. You need to watch the horse closely and monitor the condition to encourage recovery.

My paint horse was injured on July 4th. He is a BIG. A spear embedded into his chest the size of an orange. He then ripped the chest 9 inches sideways and 9 inches down leaving a piece of flesh hanging onto his knee cap. Vets came out surgery. He was locked up for 51 days without any change of diet or walking and kept in a 10x 12 stall while he healed. Since his diet was not changed he gained weight and went diabetic on me and went down. Vets returned and took xrays and said his coffin bones looked good in both front feet. We put him on ezee boots and wrapped his legs for a week. He has still been locked in a small corral while healing and making a come back. Three weeks ago he got into the cattles sudan grass and went back down. Extending his front leg. Last week he is walking almost normal again and I have let him out in a small pasture. He is on Teff grass and Wellsolve. He has lost 90 pounds. I also have him on remission. Today the farrier came for the first time and found a small amount of blood in his toe area on one front and some on another front and one little amount on his one back foot. What recovery of hoof care do I need to do now ? He loves water and drinks lots. He is walking the best since the July injury.

Someone please help with what I should do next.
Thanks.
Stephanie

Call your farrier or vet.
It might be nothing and your farrier trimmed to short, which will go away in time, or it might be something more serious.
Check the lameness and tenderness with a pair of hoof testers.
Ask someone you know who has some knowledge in this field

Well, if your horse is lame you should wait for a few days to see if it improves. If not call a vet or farrier to make sure its nothing too serious.
