Times have changed. I started giving my son whole milk at a year. The reason you shouldn't give infants under a year of age whole milk is because it isn't fortified with the iron formula has that otherwise would lack in an infant's diet. Now that I have started giving my son whole milk he still drinks about a gallon every four days so it really doesn't cut back on the cost.

after about a year I would mix half formula and half Vitamin D milk. Mother of 2 and never had a problem. They both love milk.

Hello,
Well, my twins were on NeoSure by Similac unitl they were 9 months old. Then, I mixed Enfamil and Simlac together until the Simalac formula was gone. This was also to make the new tasting formula not such a shock to my twins and this was per my ped..
Then, when they turned one years old, I put them on whole milk while mixing in the rest of the Enfamil formula.
Today at 15 months, my twins are still on whole milk until they turn 2 and will be switched to 2% milk.
Hope this helps you................ :- O

Actually when you think about it I never really ever did take my daughter off her soy formula. I've been drinking soy and rice milk for years because I'm lactose intolerant and when I found out my daughter was too when she started taking solid foods I just put her right back onto soy milk. At 21 she's still drinking soy milk. So I guess she never gave up her formula...LOL

I am mostly guided by the formula itself. For instance they would stop at 1 year and from there there would be a more developed milk for toddlers. So its 1 year for me, but use other milk powders.

I breastfed until 9 mos, then did formula about another 4 months. So...at 13 months I switched to whole milk.

Doctors do not recommend that you take them off formula until their one year old birthday. Cow's milk any sooner could help them develop an allergy to it. And when you do switch, make it whole milk.

10-12 months and no sooner, ever.
Cow's milk can actually cause small intestinal bleeding in infants and should not be introduced until then to prevent this, which can in turn cause the allergies previously mentioned.

In the US, the average age to stop breast feeding is around 1 year old. In most the world it is between ages 3 and 5 years old. Discuss it with your child's pediatrician.
