If she feels the pain after and not just during, she should be seen by a doctor. I had a similar problem and turned out the hpv virus advaced deep in my cervix and was causing me pain. Also she could have fibroids .

she is not inserting them far enough before expelling the tampon (if she uses one with a plastic applicator). tampons are very dry and when trying to place them into an area that is dry, they give a sharp pain that radiates up towards the abdomen. it is more bothersome than anything and this sensation is perfectly normal due to the circumstances.

i believe all women have this issue on occassion.

When a Tampon is inserted correctly, you shouldn't feel anything. Insertion is easy and comfortable once you learn how. The key is to relax! Here is a step-by-step instructions on asite at http://www.tampax.com/en_us/pages/tss_main.shtml?pageid=AR0111

A descriptive "how to" guide is also printed on the insert included in all Tampon packages.

If she is young and a virgin, most likely the size is too big and she is not inserting it properly or far enough in---all of the above can be the problem and you may want to switch to the little ones and I know tampax makes "slender" ones that may be what she needs.

Oh one more thing, she shouldn't wear them on light days---toxic shock syndrome and all, and it would make it more uncomfortable if she is actually "dry"

It sounds as though she is not inserting it at the right angle. tell her to put one leg up on the toilet and push back and up towards her bottom. If she still feels pain then maybe a trip to the doctor will be best. Also check she is using the right size.

There is this thing called toxic shock syndrome. And I always thought it was best to let the blood flow out instead of using a tampon. It is a cleansing process. Tampons are yucky.

Probably because it is inserted incorrectly. Close, but not accurate. I had that problem with the one tampon I used years ago, I stayed with pads. Take care.

The muscles may be too tight, especially if she is not sexually active or a virgin. But the uncomfortable feeling should go away in a minute or so, if not she probably is inserting it wrong or using too large a size for her.

I have the same thing. But it is only when I have bad period pain. Usually for the first 2 - 3 days. I have no idea why this happens either and I have had my period for 13 years.
