I'm not sure what "sub tropical" means, but I can tell you that I am not one who enjoys the heat EVER !!
I love the cool fog of the central coast of Cali when ever I can get it.
But I did have the pleasure of visiting the Caribbean last May and it was awesome.(due to the fact that I won an awesome vacation trip). Not too hot and not too humid even for me !!
And that is saying a lot.
Climate and time of year is the key.

Many reasons. Some like them, others loathe them.

The weather is always (usually) warm. Often nice beaches and low heating costs.

Of course, with the tropics comes the bugs, diseases, and God knows what else.
