He has gone through a rough patch with his old school, with a kid he has been in competition with. He is a little beat up. How do I help him know the best way to enter a new school. Obviously, I don't want him on the defensive, but I don't want him to make everyone his friend the first day. By the way he is in 5th grade

Just tell him to be relaxed and be himself. he will make friends on his own at this age, you don't have to hold his hand through this one mom.

you poor dear lady....i feel sorry for your son as well....you know i am going though the same thing but in a different way...my son does not listen in school...and always coming home with bad news....its just non stop...and he's only in grade one!!! But just tell him that it will alright...and you'll be safe at this school...give him some courage and a little something that would lift his spirit about this new school...hope that helps
