I see the Wings as rolling the dice with this one. They are in a dog fight with the Preds, so I guess they feel they need to take a chance.
With all the off ice problems that he still faces, and on top of that his back surgery, I can't see Bertuzzi making a contribution.
I think it'll end up being a bad deal.

Bertuzzi won't play a game this year for Detroit this because his injury is worse than they are saying? LOL!!!! Ken Holland is no fool, they are pretty much guarenteed to make the playoffs no need to rush him back. Bertuzzi even said he wanted to wait until he was 100% because of this reason.I also read he would return the end of march. I'm sure the Wings got a doctors opinion before they made the trade, I would have.
Todd Bertuzzi made a mistake, he let anger get the best of him something I have seen alot of hockey players fall victem to. He was wrong to do what he did to Steve Moore. If you wanted to make a list of ALL the "dirty" players in the leauge it would include more than just him. As far as him being a "bad influence" in the locker room, only if his teamates let that happen. I've seen alot of players come to Detroit in recent years and become BETTER players. Why is this?
The guy is 32 years old, past his prime? please. Detroit used to plop Bob Probert in front of the net on power plays, you had to pay attention to him and try to move him. Todd Bertuzzi will do the same thing for Detroit. It's a low risk trade for Detroit, if he flops they aren't out much. If they get the old Bertuzzi, they are a greatly improved team. Detroit has alot of talent, I think he just makes them a little bit deeper while adding toughness. Go Wings.

With the Deal the Wings made with the Panthers being conditional draft picks, its a win win situation for the Red Wings. If Bertuzzi comes back and is the player they hope he is, they got a great deal. If he comes back and preforms really poor or gets injured again the Wings keep the pick and only lose Shawn Matthias for the chance of greatly increasing the teams potential at a cup run. If Bertuzzi does not resign with the Wings they get to keep the other conditional pick aswell. Great deal for the Wings and Ken Holland. Big physical player with a huge upside with very little risk if things don't pan out. A+

The impact all depends how he comes back from back surgery. The Wings already said they took a flyer on Bertuzzi cause he has only played 7 games so far this year but he is supposed to be very close to returning. So if he comes back healthy and plays the rest of the year healthy, he will have a huge impact. Detroit lacks the toughness and grit that other top teams have (anaheim, SJ, Calgary, Nashville) and they are mainly a skilled team with lots of euros. Bert should step into the top 6 easily and be in the first PP and be a force to be reckoned with, physically and offensively. He was the top power forward a few years ago and if he comes even close to that stature again......he could very well lead the wings to the promised land. I like this pickup along with calder for the wings cause they bring grit and toughness to the table and teams need that to win in the playoffs, along with the offence they currently have!!! Watch out!!!

I hope he doesn't turn out to bee another Uwe Krupp. I hope he don't cause any problems in the locker room. Allot of people hate him for what he did and franchise players or any player can relate but none more than Draper to the effects of a cheap shot. Bad blood at this time of year is never a good thing.Especially in the locker room. Look what happened with the Kujo, Dom problem recently.I never liked todd.Still don't.Probably never will not just because of the cheap ,sucker, punk;thing he did but I always thought he was an arrogant punk and worry about his presence in the locker room.I know the Wings are a very professional group but some things are hard to over look.GO WINGS with or without todd. I think Holland made a WE TODD DID DECISION a SOFA KING WE TODD DID DECISION. One that will probably come back to bite him you know where (in the bertuzzi).NEGATIVE IMPACT! GO WINGS with or without todd.

Unfortunately I think Bertuzzi will not produce for Detroit at all. He'll either be sidelined for the rest of the season with his injury or he'll play injured and be a burden for the team. Bertuzzi's prime is long gone. Good thing for the Red Wings is the draft pick they sent to Florida is conditional, so if he doesn't play they only send Florida a 5th rounder.

I think it was one of the stupidest things Ken Holland has ever done. I realize they did not have to give up much for him so if he doesn't play (which I don't think he will, I sure HOPE he doesn't) they haven't lost much. That said--Bertuzzi is past his prime. He is a dirty nasty player. He is a bad influence on the chemistry in the locker room which is a very important part of a good team. And most of all, which eveyone seems to have forgotten--how is he going to get along with Chris Chelios?? They hate one another. In my opinion getting Bertuzzi is a slap in the face. Heck, why don't we call Claude Lemieux out of retirement and get him on the team too!! They have ruined a great team with that acquisition.

I don't think anyone's said this yet...
I truthfully don't believe Todd Bertuzzi will ever take the ice in a Red Wings uniform.
I think the injury is signifcantly worse then anyone is letting onto, and i think that he won't be back this season.
I suppose maybe it's possible that Detroit will re-sign him, but i wouldn't be soo sure that that is going to happen....

Good move by the wings and Stevie Y. The Red Wings always have the best team and talent but, come playoff time hockey changes and is more physical. By getting Bertuzzi the Red Wings wont have a problem anymore. He is a mammoth man who will sit in front of the net and other teams dont have anyone who can move him. He is an excellent player, and the Wings just put themsleves over the top. They will win the cup now. Gaurenteed.

Well, Bertuzzi has not been producing, and hes been sidelined with a back injury most of the season. Soo probably he won't hurt or help. Go Preds!!!
