A cut scene or cutscene is a sequence in a video game over which the player has no control, often breaking up the gameplay and used to advance the plot, present character development, and provide background information, atmosphere, dialogue and clues. Cut scenes can either be animated or use live action footage.

Answerer number 1 got it. There are a couple of cool cutscenes in some Nancy Drew PC games I have - where you stop and watch electricity making a series of devices work until something opens, or something with jewels spinning around, etc. Another game has a cutscene where the cowboys are sitting and singing after dinner, and a ghost horse rides by.
