I want to enter a writing contest. For the contest we have to write a fictional story. I need help with ideas

I want to write a story about a group of kids who go on an adventure. Any ideas for the characters and where they go would be great.

How about these kids asking The FLAT EARTH SOCIETY to sponsor them on a trip to the edge of the earth to prove, once and for all that the earth is flat.

So they get to the edge and nearly fall off and come back with some great video of their trip and they go on all the TV shows and make lots of money and they all get Pulitizer prizes for proving that the earth is NOT ROUND after all.

stick with 5 or 6 characters have a plain crash and have them struggle to clime out of the mountains, ... for characters you need two girls who have a crush on the sporty type boy a shy guy who has out door experience who has all the answers but is to shy to say anything. the obnotous clown who thinks he knows it all and the parent who lives long enough to point them in the right direction.
