An Intel that is around 4000 MHz would be comparable.
The actual running speed of that processor is 2100MHz (which =2.1GHz)

About 7 years ago AMD came out with this marketting campaign to try and compare their processors to Intel processors. You see the problem was the AMD processors could complete more tasks per cycle than the Intel processors. BUT the intel processors would make more cycles per unit of time.

Since the conventional measurement of Processor horsepower so to speak was how many Herz(a cycle of electricity) can processor operate at, it made the Intel processors look much better on paper than they actually were. Infact many people think the AMD processors are superior.

So to combat this faulty thinking, AMD started rating their processors against the Intel processors so people could understand how fast they were. The rating was always with a "+" symbol behind it.

As chips become 64-bit and multiple cores on the die it's harder to judge, but the general rule for AMD has been that the number they use for the chip (in this case 4000+) refers to its approximate performance in regards to a Pentium chip. So as was mentioned, an Athlon 64 X2 4000+ would behave at least as well, theoretically, as a P4 4.0ghz chip. It's mostly my opinion, but I think AMD chips give you more power and bang for your buck for a lesser price than Intel... benchmarking tends to agree, but it's still mostly my opinion. So feel confident in buying an AMD chipset system. I'm running an AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ as we speak and it works wonderfully.

Although this AMD Athlon is running at 2.1 GHz clock speed, its performance is the same as an Intel CPU running at 4 GHz.

X2 4000+ = 4.0GHz Intel.

2.1 gig cpu. one speed is the same as the other speed if that's all you want. the chip manufacturers use similar hardware configurations when they design the cpu chips. they use an industry standard to determine speed of the processor, but may have different architecture when they manufacture them.
