The only other class that has a "controllable" pet would be the Warlock. (Imp - Stamina Buff, Voidwalker - Tank, Succubus - Crowd Control, Felhunter - Mana Stealer, Felguard (if you spec demonology) - tank and dps.)
Other than that, the pets you buy at vendors and such pretty much just follow you around.
Some pets that are drops attack for a certain period of time, but you don't have any control over them, so basically they are always on "aggressive".
Also, if you wish to have a pet "made" contact an engineer.

well and class can have a small pet. that is probobly what you have heard. but if you want a combat pet, the only other class that can have a pet is the warlock. with a warlock you can get an imp right away, by doing a quest. or you can be a druid. they a basically thier own pets, since they can transform into animals. but the choice is up to you.

The only other class with full time combat pets (for both factions) would be the Warlock (only 4 pets to choose from, but each with unique abilities, as well as a fifth you can spec for).
At higher levels, if you spec for it, Druids, Mages, and Shaman can get pets that can be summoned for short periods during fights.
The pets that you can buy from vendors / AH / or get as a quest reward are non-combat pets. They're merely there as flavor.

Warlocks are the only other class that can have a "Battle" pet. Unlike hunters though, you can't rename your minion, it's name is randomly generated and can't be altered. Plus you need soul shards to summon them each time. You don't have to buy a spot to stable your minions, as they are basically summoned from some other demon dimension everytime you cast the summoning spell. To train them, you need to buy grimoires from the warlock pet trainer and cast the book on your minion.
Warlocks can have:
-an imp (shoots fire balls, ranged attack, low armor),
-a voidwalker (good tank, melee combat),
-a succubus (whip, crowd control, melee combat),
-a felhunter (good tank, debuffs, and melee combat), or
-a humanoid looking demon (not sure of the name, haven't gotten there yet, but looks to be good tank)
The pets that you can buy from the vendor are generally non combat pets, they just follow you around and look cute (or weird, depending on the pet that you pick)
I have a siamese cat for one of my rogues, but it just runs behind me. I also have a pet panda, a silver dragon hatchling, and a white kitten. :P

only hunters can have pets that actually attack stuff. warlocks have minions which are pretty much the same thing. the pets you can buy in the auction house and junk are usually things like little cats that follow you around or mechanical squirrels and junk. they cant attack things. and mages can get water elementals if they use their talent points right, its somewhere in the frost talent tree
