This is not unusually as more companies are making direct deposit a condition of employment.
Do an internet seach for banks that do "second chance checking". There are a lot out there. When I did a quick search, I saw that Bank of American had one. Here is a link for non-Chex Systems banks (meaning that they do not run your information through Chex Systems for approval. http://www.needchecking.com/
I had to do that until I got a new job and then I was able to join my company's credit union.

That fishy for the director to require a checking account for a sales person. You do not need to get one. Your director may need to get one. I hate to say this you need to go above the director and ask them if you really need to get a checking account. I really do not thinks so.
My mother did Mary Kay a long time ago. She had check written to Mary Kay and not to her. She sends the order in and got a check back from Mary Kay. She did send her own Money order for people who paid by cash. The pay was lousy at that time and things may have change since then.
Not all banks do credit checks.
Some banks do credit checks for debit card & checking accounts
Some banks do credit checks for debit cards
Other banks only check telecheck or check systems for bad checks.
Just keep looking for banks that do not do credit checks if you still want a checking account.

Bad credit is one of the worst problems to have... however there exists a solution.
I will hereby talk from my personal experience.
I did debt consolidation a couple of years ago, however If I had to do it again I would pay to some minor details,
if someone wants to get out of debt today it is pretty easy with a debt consolidation plan, however it may get a bit tricky at times, I suggest you get as much information as possible online on this first,
a good place to start in my humble opinion is astraight to the point ebook with question and answer I found :
http://umgarticles.atspace.com/debt-consolidation.htm
if it helps kindly remember me in your voting!.. cheers!
