when we compared the both Karthick is so young and his strike rate and batting is good. and He is an excellent fielder when we compared with Laxman. laxman dropped so many catches when he was in slip, those drop chances changed the total match esp against Australia. if we give even single chance to Aus batsmen then it will difficult to control them.. generally senier players in india most of them are not good fielders. but youngster are doing well, for exp. yuvraj, uthappa, karthick and raina...

Well laxman with no doubt is a very good batsman
But if you compare laxman with the those other batsman available there in the Indian lineup, Laxman just doesn't fit there and he isn't a good fielder either.
If you see Indian lineup,
uthapa and ganguly openers
Then sehwag, tendullkar, dravid, yuvraj, dhoni, pathan to follow
There you see there, India might even have to take 1 out of that lineup, that would be likely from sehwag and uthapa, after seeing their performance their, even if India choose to play 5 bowlers with all rounder pathan as no. 7. So, India better chose karthick, as chappell believe karthick have got lot of potential with the bat, he needs more exposure that the case + he's a very good fielder, you need such a fielder like him in the squad in the absence of kaif to be the 12th man and do the Fielding.

both the players are 2 extreme ends! Incomparable! Dinesh Kaarthik is more composed, talented& aggressive.i will justify it! Kaarthik as a batsman has proved talent.in SA,Laxman&Kaarthik were given opportunities & who performed? the very much experienced&history maker(of the past) Laxman? it was the young talented Kaathik.he opened the innings & performed well & even at number 7 he batted as a professional.what else, who runs better between the wickets? i hope your answer is not Laxman. who is a much better fielder? of coarse Kaarthik! Kaarthik's debut as a keeper against England is even more memorable for his stunning STUMPING of Vaughan. now a last thing a ODI level cricketer needs, aggression! i hope the final requirement too goes with Kaarthik. his great innings against WI when the top order failed, his aggression on a slow, bowler friendly wicket.also how well he played in the 2nd innings of last test match against SA,scoring runs on both sides of the wicket when the SA bowlers were at the peak of destruction.
just one last thing, Dinesh Kaarthik was dropped from the team as a keeper-batsman.& now he's back to the team as a proffessional batsmen!his talent is more beyond words can say, thats Kaarthik!

Lakshman is experienced and is a nice player in test matches.... A player who playes a ODI should have a nice stike rate.....Dinesh Karthik is not experienced but it's his strike that has given him the ticket to West Indies.....He is a man who has to play a big role for India during the final overs......

laxman has a low strike - rate & will not help in tense situations
but karthick is a good hitter of the ball & a good finisher too................
