The political capital of India is New Delhi. It is a major business hub of India as well. In the history of India, Delhi played an important role. Historically eight cities were built around it - Indraprastha, Siri, Tughlaqabad, Jahanpanah, Firozabad, Purana Qila, Shahjahanabad and New Delhi.
Today, Delhi spread in the area of 1483 sq kms is divided into two main parts Old Delhi and New Delhi. Old Delhi includes walled city and some areas across Yamuna river and outer Ring Road, while New Delhi consists of major areas of Central, South, West and Some areas of North of Delhi.

Other urban areas of the metropolis of Delhi are administered by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and are hence not considered a part of the capital city. However, the entire metropolis of Delhi is commonly known as New Delhi in contrast to Old Delhi.
