You would have to eat a whole gallon of coffee flavored ice cream for it to have an effect on your baby. Here is a link that can tell you how much caffeine is where and how much to drink on daily basis. http://www.kellymom.com/health/lifestyle/caffeine.html#sources

First off, chocolate doesn't have caffeine in it, so that one is safe.(Chocolate has Theobromine and is often mistaken as caffeine, which is an urban legend) Gawd, I hope I don't have to keep editing this. CHOCOLATE DOES NOT HAVE CAFFEINE AS A NATURAL INGREDIENT!
And quit giving me a thumbs down, go look it up for yourself.
Jessica, you get a gold star, aunt mimi, go get a book on Chocolate.
Here is the definitive answer,
"There is a persistent urban legend that Chocolate contains caffeine. It would seem that this rumor is based primarily on a confusion between two similar alkaloids: caffeine and Theobromine. Theobromine is the active ingredient in Chocolate and it occurs only in Cacao. The two stimulants are related and have a similar structures, but are very different chemicals with different properties, effects and origins."
Thank you for responding. As for the ice cream, my wife and I have a two year old, a one year old and one coming, all boys, along with my two older boys living with us. Ice cream didn't seem to have an effect, but I suppose all women are different.
One more thing, our pediatrician said that you should eat the foods that you are cultured eating because it helps acclimate the child to eating those foods as they grow (My wife is ethnic - Japanese, and he told her to eat the foods she has always eaten, ie wasabi, which although traces find its way into the milk, the baby will get used to the flavor and adapt mush easier.)

Only chocolate flavored or coffee flavored ice cream, I think, has caffine. Check the ingredients, though. You don't need to ban it from your diet, just, in moderation. (Unless you notice that it really bothers your baby). The amount of caffine in chocolate is not enough to worry about, just the coffee and soda.

Yep, I know that chocolate ice cream has real chocolate in it, so should be considered caffeine. I'm not sure about coffee ice cream (I don't like coffee) but if you read the label and anything reads as coffee or espresso or whatever I would count it.

Yes, but to a much lesser degree. You would have to eat a LOT of it to make as much as in tea or coffee drinks. But if the caffeine in the icecream makes you hyper (like when I eat too much of it) then expect the baby to get like that too. Stick to the serving size and you will be ok.

"First off, chocolate doesn't have caffeine in it" BULLSHIT...
There are about 5 to 10 milligrams of caffeine in one ounce of bittersweet chocolate, 5 milligrams in milk chocolate, and 10 milligrams in a six- ounce cup of cocoa; by contrast, there are 100 to 150 milligrams of caffeine in an eight-ounce cup of brewed coffee.

Coffee (even decaffeinated) and chocolate both contain caffeine and should be avoided. Also, avoid sodas and teas (again, even those that say decaffeinated). There are teas and soda that don't contain caffeine but they are naturally caffeine free, not decaffeinated.

Good luck with your little one.

if your going to drink coffee then drink small amounts. the ice cream is good for the dairy but the sugar is not so great so eat small amounts of that too.

Check the label to see what content of it is actually caffiene.
