I own a 1999 Honda Civic Lx. The car is very sluggish (having a 0-60 acceleration time of over 16 seconds) and i can not figure out why. I just recently had a new timing belt installed, changed the oil, and replaced the air intake filter. I was told that i need to replace my fuel filter. Can an old fuel filter really cause my car to take 6 seconds longer to reach 60mph? Are there any other engine problems that may be causing this loss of horsepower? any advice would be great. thank you very much

A dirty fuel filter can do what you describe.

Does the car ever stall out when you floor the gas pedal? That's a sure sign of a dirty fuel filter.

It's cheap to replace, and should be done regularly anyway, so it's worth a shot.
