I am considering taking my 3 children ( 4yrs, 8yrs & 10yrs) to either singapore or KL, which out of the 2 would you recommend and where would you stay? I am after somewhere, where there is great shopping, lots of childrens/family activities, safe and hopefully clean. I was thinking sunaway lagoon resort but have read terrible reports from other travellers lately. I was hoping to go in the off season as obviously it is cheaper to fly. When is the off season for the above and do you recommend going then? If anyone has any tips out there, please let me know. Thanks.

Singapore probably suitable for younger children. You can easily hop on a taxi to go anywhere. Or take MRT (mass rapid transit) or the bus if you want to save a buck or two.
You can request (email) Changi Airport for portal service, they will help you with baggage when arriving. Yes, I got help from them and they are very helpful.
If time permit, you can also take a 2 or 3 day trip to KL. It is just a few hours drive from Singapore (about 45 min airplane ride).
If you are traveling from US, check out the airline web-sites directly for cheaper airfare. The off season in Spore might not tie up with the airfare that the airline will charge. For example, if you are planning to go in Spring Break, the airfare might be expensive (especially if you have a stop over in one of the populate area in US - Hawaii for eg.).

I would recommend Singapore as you have children with you and its much safer in there. Singapore has lots of shopping malls and Orchard Road is a good place to shop.
Off seasons are usually April, May, July, August, Oct. Between April and May is relatively good as its not the Peak Season yet and weather is hot as usual, with occasional rain. (avoid Nov, Dec as it is the Rainy season and Sch Holidays)
would recommend you to go Zoo, sentosa, vivocity for shopping, you can take your children to wild wild wet (similar to sunaway only smaller)
The downside is Singapore can cost a bit more then KL, so be prepared to burn a bit on your wallet if you are going there with your children.
KL is quite good as well as it has great shopping (mega big shopping malls), but its not as safe and clean as Singapore. But Malaysia is much cheaper than Singapore.

If you are bringing your kids, it safer in Singapore.
For hotel wise, if you wana do shopping, it's more convenient for you to stay at hotels in Orchard Road, more centralised too. Or you can check out this site for more choices at cheap rates. http://directrooms.com/singapore/hotels/index.htm
You can bring your kids to the beach at East Coast Park or Sentosa. Or visit the different kinds of animal parks in Singapore, like the Jurong Bird Park, Night Safari, Singapore Zoo or Under Water World (at Sentosa).
You can do shopping at Suntec City, VivoCity, Bugis Street, and lots more.
Singapore is definitely a cleaner place than KL.
If you were considering Sunway Lagoon, you could stay at Downtown East which is similar to that.

I'd go to Singapore, just because I like it there. Quite safe there, in my opinion. I never encountered any problems there. There is stuff to do there to keep your kids entertained. Sentosa has beaches, a museum and such. Orchard Road is the shopping hub, filled with clothing stores, department stores and such... The Night Safari is a fun experience... It's a night time zoo. Try the food... Plenty of stuff to do.

go to KL...many place u can visit with ur child...u may stay at hotel nikko..there have twin tower and klcc...u may shoping there..
