I think people want a sense of escapism where they feel the need to leave the harsh world of reality and succumb to things that give them ease. There is a lot of things going on in the Middle East right now that people don’t want to hear about it 24/7, so they try to turn the focus on something that is less important – celebrity gossip. No matter how irrelevant it may seem, the media is going to continue to feed our societies’ hunger for celebrity gossip every time there is a scandal or controversy here or there. That’s how they make their money and how some people escape from reality itself. But, people have to wake up one moment or another because worldly issues are not going to disappear unless we do something about them rather than spend our time and money on things of little importance. It’s up to people to recognize what truly is important – fact from fiction. That’s when all this concern with celebrity issues will subside.

The corporate media would rather keep us distracted with Anna Nicole and Britney than keep us informed about the Iraq war, healthcare, education, and our crumbling infrastructure. Cold hard realities are bad for the economy. When the public is dumbed down, they spend more money.

It all boils down to money. The media, like any other business (and yes...it is a business!), is simply catering to what the public wants. People all over the world are killing each other in wars, others are starving from hunger, and yet we are only interested in Britnye Spears' underwear. It's a sad state of affairs.

I think it's because everyone is getting burned out on the war. All that's on the news about it is how we are losing soldiers and Iraqis are dying. It is really sad. It's the same old stuff over and over. When there is something new to report, it's usually not good (Bush wants a troop surge, Our returning soldiers are left with undiagnosed brain injuries and PTSD). I think that people feel powerless to do anything about what's going on, so they need a diversion.

Because it diverts people's attentions from the real issues facing us, ie radical islam, illegal immigration, Iraq, Iran, the trade deficit, Bush's plan's to bring in 7000 Iraqi refugees and dismantle American culture language and borders. The dems plans to promote a socialist agenda.

I think it's publicity stunts, not for Anna Nicole, but probably for Brittney. I think it's stupid. There are far worse things we as a country should be worrying about.

Could be a smokescreen. There may be some political things they don't want attention drawn to so they make a big circus out of this celebrity crap.

I totally agree
Couldn't say it any better
There is a rapist by my house and yet they should expose this guy a little more instead of a dead woman and a depressed woman shaving her hair off. Letz worry about **** that really matters.
