It sounds like a good story to me. Why do you want a dog in the story? How does it make you feel to look at all the dogs at the animal shelter. Was it hard to choose the dog. What made you decide to choose that dog. Give details of color and sound and smell--anything you think it was like or might be like. Do you name the dog right away, or wait? How does the dog respond to you? Do you love each other right away. Is the dog afraid? Happy? Does he lick or jump or do anything.

When the dog gets sick, that is a complication and you can get the reader worried about whether the dog will get well or not. Who helps you with the sick dog? Or are you all alone? Are you able to take the dog to the vet? What does the vet tell you? How do you take care of the sick dog? While you are taking care of the dog do you two start to love each other more? When and how do you know that the dog is getting better? How do you feel about that. How does the dog act when he/she is well again? What will you and your dog do to celebrate the recovery?

Another story line would be is that you found a stray dog and took him home. Your mother wasn't too happy, but she allowed the dog to stay in the basement for a while. He was sick, starving, dirty, and you nursed him back to health. You named him Buddy. You notified the animal shelter and in the end no one claimed him . By that time he worked his way into your heart and you adopted him and now he is a wonderful pet. You taught him tricks, he became your constant companion. He changed your life because he taught you to be a caring and loving young man.

How about expanding on your original idea by writing about finding a sick animal in the wild like a bird or a rabbit or something nursing it back to health and returning it to the wild. You can even elaborate how you where on vacation and stumbled upon this poor hurt creature, how it became close to you and how it reacted when returning it back to its homeland... Its also a little hard to help with ideas when in fact I am not sure what exactly its for, age group its for in terms of writing or even what are the guidelines to follow... Good luck!

If you add adjectives and adverbs to your writing, it gives more detail. Here is a sample. The dog ran. i.e. The big fat brown dog ran very quickly down the long narrow path.

YOU NEED TO BE MORE SPECIFIC SO THAT I CAN HEALP YOU...BUT IF YOUR WRITTING ABOUT AN ANIMAL, YOU SHOULD HAVE AT LEAST THREE MAIN POINTS. LET ME GIVE YOU SOME...MAN'S BEST FRIEND, IS THE DOG AS WE ALL KNOW, HOWEVER, A DOG CAN BE A LOT OF TROUBLE WHEN IT GETS SICK, IT NEEDS TO BE LOVED OR IT CAN DIE, AND MOST IMPORTANT IN NEEDS TO BE CHECKED REGULARLY BY A VETERINARIAN.

if you need more healp, please be more specific with your question..hope i healped
