I saw this title of an article on the front of an EBONY magazine.

NOT ALL HIP HOP IS DEROGATORY!

With that being said... YES, a lot of the garbage that is pushed so hard by the industry makes young men idolize these supposed "thugs" and "pimps", making it cool to disrespect women as opposed to pointing out their value. Some hip hop measures how much of a man you are by these demeaning standards.

Its sad that artists like Mos Def, Talib and Common are so often overlooked

i think that hip hop is creating a demeaning attitude towards everybody. they cannot play a song or video on free airwaves without beeping half of it out. they cannot seem to get thtough an album without mentioning how many people they have shot or stolen from. or enforcing any of several negative stereotypes.

yes and no. yes because the lyrics are disgusting and demeaning to women. but also, a lot of the girls in this generation are doing it to themselves. how do we expect men to stop calling us bitches when we turn around and do it to each other. paris hilton? thats hot? are you kidding me? thats disgusting in its self. and since when is being a bimbo a turn on? times have changed. women dont help at all when we sit there as mere objects and allow men to speak to us that way, but men falling for this trashy women also make us not know where to go. i personally hate the term *****. its the worse term of them all, yet many women embrace it. i wish etiquette was something taught in school.

Yeah, I usually can't stand the songs like that. You know like "Smack That" and "I Wanna Love You". My girlfriends love it. But I can't stand the words. I mean it's catchy but when you realize what your actually singing it's kinda disgusting to me. That's my opinion anyway. I like some hip hop as long as its pretty respectful and clean so I can dance. But because of what you mentioned I myself stick to alternative/rock, it seems to be a bit more respectful.

yea, they are all calling women hoes and b*tches, and all the young people want to imitate what they see and hear. so most certainly yes they are very bad to women and well, monkey see monkey do. that is one of the reason why I hate (c)rap music that and it dosen't even sound good to me.

I believe so. It makes me sick, especially when women flock to buy this crap and squeal about how cute these rappers are that call them hos and whatever else.
