It is a unique, gorgeous building with an extraordinary story. When the Sultan's beloved wife died, he commanded a tomb for her. I'm guessing he tried to make the tomb as beautiful as she had been. If I recall correctly, he had also planned to make a similar tomb for himself, but I think he either died before then or ran out of funds.
