TORQUE AND HORSEPOWER. PERIOD!!!!!!!!!
DON'T SEE MANY FRONT WHEEL DRIVE CAR MAKE THE WHEELS COME UP OFF THE GROUND HUH!

Well if you have ever watched a real performance car leave from a standing start. You will notice the front of the car raises and the rear squats down. This puts weight over the rear tires giving a RWD more traction. Exactly the opposite of that happens with a FWD. When the weight moves to the back you loose traction.FWD cars also tend to plow into corners instead of going around the turn.There are also more advantages to as RWD cars tend to be built on a stronger platform than a FWD this also gives the car a tighter feel.

Many reasons.
1. If your have a high power engine, you want to send power to the back wheels and let the front wheel do the steering. The front wheel cant handle both job of steering and put the a lot of hp on to the road.
2. Front wheel drive under-steer, very hard to handle, unless you are good with left-foot-braking.
3. Rear wheel drive over-steer easy to manage, just ease of the gas or dont turn the steering that much.
4. Font wheel drive car tourge steer, and it get really bad with more power, FF car are limit at about 250hp any more the front can use it.

RWD corners more accurately, since it's inherently less stable. Its a little like moving a piano. You get more grip with your shoes by pushing, but it doesn't want to go in a straight line.

It also has better traction when cornering, if the car's weight is balanced correctly. Tyres only have a certain amount of traction. It can be used up via braking forces, acceleration, or cornering. This is why race drivers brake before the corner - you can't turn as well if the front tyres are splitting their traction between braking and turning, and the harder you brake, the less you can turn. With RWD, the rear tyres use their traction mainly for controlling acceleration (and a little cornering), while the front are for forcing the car to turn (since the car's momentum makes it want to go straight, this takes a lot of force.)

You can also control the car's ability to turn. If the front tyres tend to slide (push), you can apply more power to the rear, letting the rear slide a little (making it loose) and giving some of that traction to the front. You can also take some of the weight off the front tyres (which lets them turn the car more easily) by accelerating gently while turning, since accelerative forces put more weight on the rear tyres.

Weight transfer, as the front raises during take-off from a standing start. the weight over the rear wheels increases. Better than a rear wheel drive is ....All Wheel drive. Research the Scylone/Typhoon from the 80"s

you answered your own question. Performance man. Its got more torque. But, rear wheel drive is bad for snow. Stability its not better then front....
