Get involved in an activity that builds your confidence. Study martial arts or something of that nature. If people see that you are confident then they will treat you as such.

First, developing a bad temper and being aggressive will not win you respect; they will simply make people think that you're mean, and someone to be avoided, most likely.

I think what you're really wanting is to become more ASSERTIVE - which is another behavior entirely. Aggression is a threat to harm someone, or the actual practice of harming someone. Assertiveness is standing up for yourself, stating what you believe, and sticking with it as long as you believe it's right. What assertiveness requires is courage; it's not always easy to stand up and oppose others, even when you know you're doing the right thing. It takes practice, and my advice is to start small. State your opinion in a discussion, for example. It doesn't matter if nobody agrees with you, and you don't have to get into an argument. If you can learn to state what you believe without belittling what someone else believes, you will have taken your first step toward being assertive.

Even more importantly, when you are assertive and still remain courteous, you can respect yourself, and that's something you MUST be able to do before you can expect anyone else to respect you. No one respects a bully, even if they are forced to capitulate to him through sheer strength, but I know very few people who fail to respect a person who can quietly and calmly state what he personally believes, and stick by it.

It takes time and practice, but it can be done.

Do you know who you are?
Sometimes maturity takes time and learning how not to be abused and manipulated.
I suggest you take up a martial arts class, it will provide you with some physical confidence and dispense some wisdom and life assertions.
The more confidence you have in yourself the more others will take notice.
BTW, aggression and a temper are negative character traits which destroy more lives than enhance them.
I know this first hand!!!

Anger or temper is sign of our inner frustration and is the root cause of all of our failures in the life. To get respect from others one has to respect himself first and then respect others as well. All the individuals are unique in this world and have excellent qualities lying within them. We must respect them and their views. It rebounds and we get the respect from others as well.

people will respect you and leave you alone when they see they cant get under your skin....takes all the fun out of being a bully, they will move on. showing anger only rewards them for their bullying, and feeds the fire. you need to work on your own self respect before anyone will respect you in return.

As the Emperor in Star Wars might say, "Your anger makes you powerful."

On the otherhand, Aggression and being Respected do not necessarilly go hand in hand. Infact I think they don't.

yeah, dont become more aggressive if it's not in your nature, you will just end up looking like an ********. the comment above is correct, you need to learn assertion, and that comes through self-confidence. thats your problem, i think. learn to like yourself first, then you can defend yourself.

Get into fights, even if you don't want to the anger produced from fighting can carry on into your personal life, even if you get your a$$ kicked, you will still come out angry.
