basic was the first programming language available for the home pc back in the mddle 70's which could be used to program games and other uses by the novice programmer. i think it first came out for the original apple pc. microsoft developers expanded and simplified it. visual basic came out as another use for the basic programming concept. you can check this out on wikipedia for more detail.
