A college professor told me that. I have my college degree in Spanish, & I'm not fluent in the language because we learned ancient literature, which is not beneficial to my career. I'm in the process of learning Japanese as well. I was told that I MUST learn French in order to work for the UN.

French is one of the official language in the UN because we belong to the countries which have the more powers (security council) and the more diplomats.
I think there are five official languages, but keep cool my friend the current secretary of the UN, Ban Ki-Moon, coming from Korea, can't speak French.
And here in Paris in our newspapers, we are pretty angry with that ...

Subsequently, if the chief of the UN can't speak French, I think any worker there is allowed not to do so ...

I believe that you must at least be fluent in another language besides English to be an interpreter for the United Nations.

You need to be fluent in at least 3 languages to be an interpreter for the UN.

It isn't necessary that one is French.

i don't have faith the u . s . a . could could take orders from the United international locations because of the fact the country shows extra Love and Compassion to human beings international conventional than the UN does.
