Work on increasing your runway speed as you approach - a lot of jumpers slow down to hit their mark. Work on your approach a lot so you can hit you mark (without stretching or shortening your stride) while accelerating. Also, I used to have my jumpers put what we called an "apex" string in the pit during practice. Have people watch how high you are, and far into the pit you are at your highest point. Using hurdles on either side of the pit, tie a piece of bright colored yarn across the pit at that point. Move it up and out an inch or two and try to get over the string with each jump. As you get better, you can increase the height and distance, and see what you have to do to increase the apex of your jump. Also, make sure you are landing and pushing forward so as not to have to measure a backstep, or a butt cheek, or a hand.... The best thing is to have all the jumpers and the coach work together, compare notes, and help each other improve. Best of luck.
