I bought an item for $303 and the person outright stole my money. Ebay said that they would help me and I lodged a dispute, esculated it and sent all the relevant documentation to Germany. Still I have heard nothing it its been months. I always thought ebay would protect people in situations like this, hence the safety in using the site. This is NOT true and I am a living example.

Luisa V,

it is YOUR job to protect yourself. ebay is not a babysitter.

they can investigate your complaint.
but ultimately it is your responsibility.

i know that may sound harsh, but it is the truth.

ALWAYS pay through PAYPAL with a CREDIT CARD! it is the best protection for all things ebay.

if you DID pay with a credit card, call the CC company and file for a CHARGEBACK. do it now.

In may cases, particularly in the cases of overseas sellers, there is not a great deal that even eBay can do. If you paid for the item via PayPal, there is a way to reverse the payment but you only have a limited amount of time to do it and this kind of insurance is limited to verified sellers.

Usually when you are about to pay with paypal you will see if your purchase is protected or not though this is not helpful because by then you have already committed to buying from the seller.

Personally after getting burned by a British seller, I just don't buy from overseas anymore.
