You do have a copper/nickel 3 cent piece, but the word cent is not on the coin. There is a Roman numeral III in a wreath, but that is it. As for grading, it is best to see a dealer or at least a coin club member, or go see if your library has a coin grading book. In grade good (date and legends complete but worn) it has a value of $11.00. In very good (III half worn rims complete) $12.00 and in very fine (3/4 of hair detail visable) $17.50. These are about what a dealer would pay. The grading I gave you is helpful, but a grading book with photo's would be more of a help to you. You do have a coin that showed up, do to the hoarding of silver coins during and a little after the Civil War.

US Copper-Nickel 3 cents (type 1865-1889) :
http://www.coingrading.com/series/69a.jpg

1868-dated piece has a mintage of 3,252,000 and is valued at:

$18 in F grade, $23 in VF, $30 in EF, and $50 in AU.

These are coin catalog values; you'll get less if you sell it to a coin dealer.

Grading abbreviations:
Very Good (VG) - Well worn but more of the rim will be evident. Design and legend will be clear but worn flat. Lacks specific details.
Fine (F) - Medium to heavy wear but even overall. The design becomes clearer and details begin to appear. Some letters within the design will be apparent.
Very Fine (VF) - A visibly nicer coin. High spots will show light, even wear. Various major features are visible. Lettering is all readable.
Extremely Fine (EF) - Slight wear will show on the highest points of the main devices. Words are sharp and easily readable. All details are clearly defined.
About Uncirculated (AU) - Slight traces of wear on the highest points of the coin; may be dull with some evidence of luster under any toning.

Try taking it to an antique shop. The owner might be able to tell you how much its worth. I'm sure it's probably a lot of money because it's from the 1800s.
