But it is patriotic to not want to pay your fair share of taxes to support the government. Is this hypocracy at its finest?

To blindly follow the government is not patriotism it is nationalism. What is the difference, well, patriotism is a government with oversight that must keep the best interests of the people in mind, nationalism is a government without rules or boundaries doing whatever it will whether the people agree or not. To patronize those who question simply for questioning is idiotic (though human).

For an ideas of what a nationalistic government can do, look at Nazi Germany, 10% of the country supported the Nazi party yet they were able to fight a world war, have a Holocaust, and pretty much just make anyone they wanted disappear, all because people were afraid to question.

I think you have a right to think what you want. You don't have to support the war and neither do I. It doesn't make us any less patriotic than those people who run around with all the pro-war bumper stickers and such on their cars and things like that. It doesn't mean we don't care about or support our troops. They are simply doing their jobs and deserve our prayers and good thoughts. It's the warmongers like Bush that I think are unpatriotic in this whole thing!

It is not unpatriotic in the least not to support the war. Some of the rhetoric that comes from those who do not is unpatriotic and demoralizing to the men and women who are laying their lives on line for us.

It's all about defining the parameters of debate. As simple minded as it might be to frame the issues as "you're either with us ... or you're with the terrorists," this bumper sticker logic really resonates with large segments of the American people, specifically Democratic lawmakers who dutifully marched in lockstep with Bush as he took the country to war under false pretenses.

What's REALLY unpatriotic (in my humble opinion) is putting your political future ahead of the lives of our fellow Americans and those of people half way around the world. Hundreds of millions of people around the world took to the streets PRIOR to the beginning of the war to protest the administration's plans. When was the last time THAT happened?!?

And did anyone in Washington listen? Did any Senator or Representative (besides Bernie Sanders and Dennis Kucinich) speak out and say "Excuse me your Highness, but maybe it's not such a good idea to give you unchecked powers to wage war, restrict civil liberties, redefine the Geneva Convention, etc."?

What's "hypocrisy at its finest" is Democrats refusing to hold their elected officials and candidates to the same standard they hold the Bush administration. Sure Bush, Cheney, Rice, Rumsfeld and the rest are beneath contempt - but they wouldn't have accomplished what they have thus far were it not for the cowardly acquiescence of the Democratic Party, and in the case of Joe Lieberman and Hillary Clinton, unwavering support for Bush's foreign policy agenda.

It is not unpatriotic to not support the war.

It is unpatriotic to not pay taxes.

It is not unpatriotic to not want those taxes to go towards social programs that enable people to be useless members of society.

i don't think that it is unpatriotic to not support the war. the beauty of life is that generally we can support or not support what we chose to. i'm not really in support of the war, however i support the troops that are there and being sent there. there is a difference to me.

Those who most loudly claim their patriotism are usually those that have the least understanding of what true patriotism is. They are simply sheep who believe that waving the flag and blindly following those they employ is an acceptable substitute for character and honor.

it is not unpatriotic to be against the war......

but it is unpatriotic to call those unpatriotic who are willing to question the role of our government in an illegal war????

America was founded on the principle that we not only have the right but the obligation to question our leader's wisdom...... or in Bush's case lack of wisdom in decision making
