this dream may be reflecting on changes going on around him that he doesn't particularly like

In dreams, death often means new beginnings or fear of new opportunities. If it was a really vivid dream, the importance of the meaning would be doubled and something significant will happen soon. If he doesn't dream often, again, it is more significant and is probably connected to his sister at a subconscious level if they are really close. However, birth or coming back to life can mean either a new beginning or something bad or challenging is going to happen.

It means different things to different people. A Dream book is usefull to have, but, like tarot cards you have to interpret them for yourself. Maybe his sister will be "stabbed in the back" or betrayed by a friend, or has some sort of hurt; whether it be physically or emotionally coming up in her future. My advice would be to tell her of this dream. Good luck ^_^

Forget what the doctors who preach to know dreams say. A dream means only what it means to you. Ask him to remember the dream in as much detail as he can. Not just what happened but what he felt during the dream. Such as relief, jealousy, fear, anything along those lines. Tell him to remember the minor details that stuck out and then to talk about them and think about them. The ONLY person that can interpret your dreams is you.

you have to have more of the story for a determination of what a dream means..the best way is for you himself to write down a short paragraph of him describing the dream. The words he choose is important is unscrambling the dream.
Murder..danger..ending something that you can't get back.

It could mean that he feels like he is lacking in himself or in his relationships a special quality that his sister has. She could be a symbol for the aspect of herself that he admires and her death shows that he feels that he is losing or does not have that quality himself.
