I interviewed today with a big insurance corporation and the manager and 2 other people who interviewed me told me that they'd make a verbal offer to me. They told me that I can turn in my 2 weeks notice to my current employer. Is this agreement legally binding?

Verbal contracts are legally binding but the problem is proving it. If there is a dispute it becomes your word against theirs and it's likely that you wont win.
It is always better to get any agreement in writing. If they want to offer you the job it should only take them 15 minutes to type a letter of offer.
If they can't do that then I would take it as a sign that you shouldn't consider working there.

If they are a big corporation then it should be standard procedure to put everything in writing. I mean, it's an insurance company, they expect all customers to have things in writing.
I do agree that there are legally binding aspects to such agreements, but in a 3 to 1 situation wouldn't you rather have it written?

yes, verbal agreements are legally binding. The only problem is that they are hard to prove in court, especially since you are the only one there.

certain types of verbal agreements have legal authority over despondent associate or neighbor ,friend etc ... . how ever , a written agreement is required for sums of a larger nature .
you may have to check on what i said here laws tend to flux and change or vary .

depends on your state. I know that it is binding in california (if that law is still good). But certain states, it doesnt hold any water. Check with your lawyer or a local court.

my management principals teacher said so about two weeks ago
i argued that it wasn't then i remembered from another class he said you could go to court on it i taking up buiss.management graduate in December
