Other dimensions, at this point in time, are mathematical concepts used to explain Quantum Theory. According to string theory (M-theory) there are currently 10 spatial dimensions and 1 time dimension. So far only 3 spatial dimensions are evident to humans and we do not have the technology to directly detect the other 7. However, there is a new particle accelerator that will be completed this year, and some experiments may be able to determine this question. It is believed that this accelerator will be able to create sub-microscopic instantaneous black holes. If this happens, then we may be able to make a more deterministic conclusion.

Stay tuned! The next couple of decades could be some of the most exciting findings in quantum physics.

Probably. Even if we could detect it, our feeble minds are only wired for three dimensions not including time. Humans would not be able to grasp the concept of more than four dimentions just as a two dimensional being could not understand a third dimension.
m-theory is just that....a theory. It requires many dimensions to make it work mathematically. That does not guarantee there are 10, 11 or any arbitrary number of dimensions.

A 60s singing group, ha ha. String theory specifies anywhere from 10 to maybe even 15 dimensions curled up so small that not even our biggest and best colliders can detect them. The math concerning string theory, not that I understand a bit of it, I believe does not work for "just" 5 dimensions. If there are 5 dimensions, then according to String Theory, there are more than 5.

theres a theory called superstring theory...that all matter is made of extremely tiny 'threads' looped into one another, which r of 11 dimentions...the loops vibrate and the direction of vibration(clkwise anticlkwise)decides what kind of matter it is....all we see is those many dimentions resolved into a mere 3 dimentions
i know the concept of more than 4 dimentions is incomprehensible..but just becos we lack the imagination to concieve one doesnt mean there isnt one

There may be a fifth dimension, but there certainly is no fifth dimention.

according to the string theory there are 10 or 11 dimensions... read the article on wikipedia...

Actually....... There are an infinite number of dimensions. And measurments that are 'independent' oe each other (length, width, depth, time, mass, charge, sppin, strangeness, color, charm, etc,) are 'dimensions' in the mathematical sense.

For example, age, gender, hair color, eye color, height, and weight are 6 'dimensions' that can be used to measure humans.
