Not originally. The design of the plan was to contain Terrorism. It is a very poor phrase. It was coined and perpetuated by people who simplify issues without having to go through the inconvenience of having to explain themselves.

For instance who is a terrorist. Even you have confused the issue. Iran is not a terrorist. Iraq under Saddam didn't support terrorism. The people who made the accusation didn't know what they were talking about.

Terrorists are cowardly vile criminal murderers. They should be dealt first by policemen and law courts, not aircraft carriers and bumbling military commanders assisted by tens of thousands of teenagers carrying automatic rifles.

Proof of this statement? Osama is still free.

A War implies that there is an organized opposition with coherent strategies geared to achieving specific war aims.

In the 9/11 attacks foreigners were blamed although all of the attacks came from inside the borders by people who had already been screened by US Immigration. All had legitimate passports and visas. All the attackers were known to authorities and identified publicly by the end of that day. It took longer to identify Timothy McVeigh as the attacker.

The focus has always remained on citizens. Citizens rights were curtailed here despite the known fact that at no time in history has a terrorist cell ever brought down a government. Israelis are attacked on almost a constant basis. Britain suffered casualties at the hand of the IRA. But no government has fallen nor has any economy ever been destroyed by one.

One gambit the "brain trust " in Washington wants to do is to have all (including American citizens) only enter the US with a legitimate passport.

A long standing tradition held that no passports were required for the travelers between the US and Canada. Now they are required. Security concerns.

All this despite the fact that every single one of the attackers including Timothy McVeigh had a legitimate passport. So your timing is way off. Your civil rights were already suspended before the first cruise missiles slammed into Kabul.

People of the Islamic faith have been incarcerated without Habeas Corpus ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Habeas_Corpus ). For English and American peoples for eight hundred years through wars, civil wars and revolutions the basis of Habeas Corpus has been fought for and protected by almost all. It is the foundation of all civil rights.

Yet immediately after the 9/11 it was literally suspended and suspended totally on racial and cultural profiling. Guantanamo Bay holds as the international symbol of this loss of freedoms. Most of the prisoners there have never been tried, never seen a courtroom to hear a charge.

Yet they have been detained for four years now with no charge. The excuse has been security although it is a policy wholly dependent on racism. Every one of those prisoners is brown skinned. No imagination needed. Its reality.

Mahgong nailed it on the head. Some answers people have been giving shows that they have no concept of the world around them. Lets stop making rights where they don't exist. You just don't have the "right" to do whatever you want. In civilized society, responsibilities come with rights. Examine Greek and Roman history, the basis for civilization including ours. What rights are you losing? No one is listening to your childish conversations, because you're not talking to someone outside the country attached with a radical islamic group.Oh, that you are inconvenienced at the airport. Maybe someone doesn't care if you reach your destination and that extra check could mean you get to grandma's. Remember, America is large and it is easy to get into the country. Do you know who's here and what their intentions are? There are those who hate Americas, regardless of race, creed, gender or preference. What are you rights and what are your responsibilities in a free society. You can't have one without the other.

And just what the hell are YOUR expert and oh so perceptive solutions about what to do about the fact that a huge number of people are willing to die in order to kill Americans? Some 3,000 innocent American men, women and children have already died at the hands of these rabid beasts, so I suppose you and your ilk think the threat will just disappear on its own if we bury our heads in the sand. Sacrifice of a few basic rights to try and protect ourselves is a small price. In other words you can't make an omelet without breaking some eggs.

You and all the other blind people in this country had better recognize one brutal fact -- our nation is experiencing a genuine threat from the Muslim world.

You started out well. I will answer the first real question. The answer is NO. It is much more than our basic rights. It is the fact that we do not worship thier god. That makes us infadals. goodless in their eyes. You must get your head tuned in to ancient thinking to understand their Jihad. It is not modern. It is old. Ironic, our country, USA. have seperated religion from civil govt. But over there Religion runs it all.
