They look tall on screen, but search their height or see them in LA in person, and they are midgets! Why?
For example, Sienna Miller is 5'3." Natalie Portman is 5'2". Lil kim os 4'10".

I think most women, especially actresses are short. I don't know too many over 5'4". What is amazing to me is how many actors are so short.
If you ever notice, in most of the shows the guys are about the same size as the girls. If the girls are mostly 5'4" and smaller, what does this say about the guys.
I went to a soap opera set in LA one time. They had smaller doorways that guys came through to make them look big. The women went through bigger doorways to make them look even smaller.
I've also met many soap stars. Very few men are even close to 6' tall. That really surprised me.

Let's take a couple of "tall" actresses. Mischa Barton is 5' 9" according to IMDB and just towers over many of the male stars and even her former boyfriends. Jennifer Garner is 5'9" according to the IMDB and the same thing happens to her. If you put either in high heels, they end up being 6' tall or taller.
In one western, the female star was 6'2" and when she was with her male star going through a corn field, she was actually walking in a ditch the film crew dug so she would appear shorter than the male star.
Many directors, at least in the past, would perfer the female to be shorter than the male star, even if the guy is 5'8" tall. It makes the male star more masculine and the female star more feminine.
Sylvester Stallone is 5'10" which doesn't make a very impressive Rambo. Tom Cruise is 5'7" and would probably get his butt kicked by Garner. Bruce Willis fairs a little better at 6'1" but next to Willis, he would probably look shorter. If you put these three guys next to short women, they look larger than life rather than average or short.

There are also some that are very tall and you wouldn't know they were tall because in movies they film them so their male costars are on steps or boxes to make the actresses look shorter next to them.
