If the Toronto Maple Leafs can win all of the games for the rest of the season then they can make the playoffs. If they lose or tie games for the rest of the season then they probably won't make the playoffs.

No team between the 6 and 12 slot is safe. The Leafs trail 8th place Montreal by 3 points with 2 games in hand. That puts them in a strong position, but the Rangers, Isles, 'Canes and Bruins all have a shot at the top 8.
I'd say the Leafs chances are an even 50-50. They're within striking distance but have not shown any glimpse of urgency or inspired play in the last few games.

Carolina hasn't played well all season and Montreal is spiraling out of the playoff hunt so I say the Maple Leafs make it as the 8th seed, with the Islanders just edging them out for 7th. Making Carolina the first team since New Jersey in 96 to miss the playoffs the year after winning the Cup.

The Thrashers, Islanders, Habs, Rangers, Leafs, Bruins, and Canes are all in the hunt for the final three spots. And they are very close in the standings.
Right now the Leafs are 3 points behind with 2 games in hand on 8th place. Being that they are roughly a .500 team, that's the same as them being 1 point behind. And that's nothing. But they are not playing very well right now. Raycroft just got shelled twice in a row, and they can't count on Aubin. Plus, their only win in their last ten was against the Flyers

Just like last year, they will have to win all of their final 10 games, AND hope for help. Last year it wasnt enough, and Ill bet the same result this year.
