Think about wha the likes make it something special that no one else could have got him. I'll use reading as an example. Let's say your friend likes to read, get him a book and hide a gift card in the middle, when he get's to that page... $20. Remember, anyone can give cash. But make it something special that he knows you actually listen to he says, and your golden.

Well it really depends on what he likes.
