Just go get him. The only way to loose the game for sure is to take yourself out. You might be suprised.

Make a list of the worst things that could happen and then the best things. That should help you decide whether it's worth asking him or not. Good luck.

Youre nervous about being rejected and perhaps you will be. There lies the answer...if you know how to handle being rejected then you have nothing to lose.
