Are you saying that you are thirty years old and have never had a job?? How have you managed that?? Okay, to the problem at hand: being hired at Barnes & Noble; if the above is correct, whoever interviews you is going to question you as to why you have never worked, thus, you must have a response which will cast a favorable light upon you (a really logical reason for your lack of experience). Assuming that you have such a valid explanation which the interviewer will accept, then convince that person that you are both qualified for the position and that you truly want the job. Aside from the above advice, be persistent; continue applying whenever a position becomes available. In the meantime, however, find a job so that you can gain experience and acquire a resume. I think that your lack of a career history may be inhibiting your opportunity for realizing your "dream job". Additionally, if you failed to show for a second interview when called, that is quite an error; I doubt that you would be granted a further interview at the same store in the future if you have created such an unfavorable impression. If you truly desire a job, you must overcome your nerves and comply with the requirements of the employers. Good luck!

You can get a job there even if you are nervous, I have been hired while acting nervous more often then acting confident.
Just go apply and be your nervous self.
The decision weather or not you have a shot is made by the interviewer who will either think you are fit, have potential, or not like you for a reason that will not be shared by all people who interview you in the future.
You may try applying for random jobs you don't want just to see how it feels to be considered or rejected.
All interviews are not the same.
I don't know how you made it to 30 without having a job, I am almost 30 and have had at least 30 jobs including my current job that I really like and have been at for almost 4 years so I am a late bloomer/loser myself and really think that your dream job is a bad goal. You need to get a better job then one at a bookstore, and then support yourself and get ready to support your parents shyguy.

You should feel great about the fact that they called you back for a second interview. That is very positive so this should raise your confidence level. Try to get your mind off of yourself and go to the interview and be honest by telling them that this is your dream job and why. Employers definitely want people that have a true desire to work for them. Let them know why you would make a good employee, go with confidence, keep good eye contact, and be pleasant. Dress appropriately and make sure that you are well groomed - hair, face, etc. I just bet that you will be successful. Before you go in, say a prayer that God will be with you and keep you from being nervous. I think you will be surprised at how calm you become when you remove the focus from yourself and just talk with the interviewer in an honest and sincere way. Good Luck!

This doesn't answer your question, but I am boycotting Barnes and Noble. I bought a book there which I wanted to return the next day in new condition with receipt but they refused, saying "textbooks" cannot be returned, even though this wasn't a text and there was no sign giving that silly policy. I'll never shop Barnes and Noble again.

Somebody once said, "Courage is not the absence of fear. Courage is the presence of fear, but also the realization that there is something more important than the fear."
Which one is more important - being nervous, or Getting Your Dream Job? If you want to get to your dream job, you'll have to go directly through your nervousness to get it. If you don't try at all & let your nervousness Stop You, you'll Never get your Dream Job.
Remember this: always Keep things in Bigger Perspective!
With so many things in Life, the first step is Always the Hardest! On your first step/Interview, you might trip up and fall on your feet and not Get the Job, that's true. But if that happens, whatcha going to do?
You're going to ask why you didn't get the job, so you can prepare & learn from your mistakes. Then you're gonna pick yourself up and take a 2nd step, and find another Barnes & Noble, or another bookstore. At that time, you'll be less nervous at your 2nd interview - that's the reward of courage: confidence, which you usually only get via Experience. If you fail again, which will be very unlikely, you're going to take a third step. Keep going until you get to where you want to go!
Prepare this Perspective before you go to the Interview. You need to Have A Plan!!!
And also, prepare a personal list of your strengths & reasons of why Barnes & Noble should hire you. You are probably more Qualified than you think! If you know how you're Qualified, you'll be less nervous. It's your 1st job, which is usually a minus, but it's also your Dream Job, which is Always a Huge Plus!
Possible Qualifications:
1. Dream Job!!! So you have the Desire/Drive to Do a Good Job.
2. Love Books
3. Know & Read Lots of Books (if this is your 1st job, you must have had a lot of time to read! You can say you spent the last 10 years reading books to prepare for your Dream Job - just kidding:)
4. Other Personal Qualities that might be useful for that job, such as Organization, Helpfulness, Friendliness, etc..
Do your homework before you go to the Interview!!! That means Researching Barnes & Noble as a Company, too. Go online and learn as much as you can about the Company & its history. They probably won't ask you, but you should know, just in case - it'll definitely come in handy later on if it's your Dream Job.
EMERGENCY: If on the off-chance (very low) they say No, then Be PERSISTENT! Appeal to their heart. Tell them how many years you've wanted to work there. Tell them to give you a chance to prove yourself, because you Really Want this Job BADLY. Tell them you'll take the worst shifts (you should be willing to, if it really is your Dream Job). Tell them (jokingly), you'd rather pass up a job at Microsoft. Tell them you'll even work for FREE for a week to prove that you can really Do a Good Job. As a VERY last resort, tell them you'll even take a 3-month, 6-month paycut (I assume you can probably afford it, if you're 30 and it's your 1st job, but don't go overboard with the paycut, because long-term, you should get paid what you deserve). If THAT doesn't work, then tell them that they can call you if an Unexpected Opening suddenly does come up, or when they need Emergency help. (They might actually do it.) Then at the very last, ask them why they wouldn't hire you, so you can rectify the situation for future jobs.)
See??? You need some kind of Plan A, as well as a Backup Plan B in case Plan A doesn't work out. Perspective, Planning & Preparation are Key to reducing Nervousness. Ha! I just invented the new 3 Ps of Basic Interviewing.
But I'm pretty sure you'll get the job, if you HURRY UP and CALL BACK to go for the 2nd Interview. (If you need an excuse, say that you GOT SICK, which is actually Pretty True - you had an Anxiety Attack, but don't tell them that, of course.) You're very LUCKY that you know what your Dream Job is, and that it's so easily Available. So don't let the opportunity just slip away because you were Nervous!!!!!
The best of luck ---- No, I should say, Plan, Prepare, & Keep things in Perspective!!!
(If on the off-hand it's already too late and they found someone, then at least you learned that you can't let your own Fear Defeat You. Try with another Barnes & Noble outlet - you can ask them which ones - or with another bookstore.)

Well, my guess is you're lying about this question, but either way I get points, so you need to get over the nervous act. You are 30 years old. You are an adult. I had a job at 16 and worked hard. Get up off your lazy butt and force yourself to apply before your parents aren't around to take care of you anymore.
Everyone gets nervous for interviews, but you can make it through.

Just apply on line. And if they call you for an interview, you know you are what they are looking for. So don't be so nerves. What's the worst that can happen? One you will never see them again or two you will have a new job.

Your lying.
I just can't believe that you are a 30 year old male who has never worked in any capacity.
I can't believe that at 30 your dream job would be a minumum wage clerk.
Therfore, I don't believe you are 30.
You are lying and really don't deserve my time.
