SORRY FOR THE DOUBLE POST!!!
We're looking for Asheville, NC on the beach! We want a hip, vibrant community that is not too crowded and commercial but still has a lot to offer. We want arts, culture, music, restaurants, outdoor activities AND laid-back beach attitude!! Is St. Petersburg the place for us? We know it was once a retirement area but heard it is now an active, thriving, growing place to live! Please advise! Thank you!

I live north of St. Pete and would suggest you looking just a little further south, in the Bradenton/Sarasota area. It's not as crowded, has all you mentioned and is still only a short drive from St Pete if you wanted to go there for any special outings. You're right about picking the FL west coast!

St. Pete is beautiful - crowded in the winter with lots of retirees. The ones that drive slow in the fast lane. You won't see a lot of young families with children - too expensvie to live there.

How can the terms, "artsy, bohemian, and progressive" also be linked with the term, "desirable"?

Hey! Just kidding. I love Ashville. Not familiar with St. Pete's.

Good Luck!
