Well its been about 2 weeks since I got it taken out. The doctor says I can do all the normal things except heavy lifting. I still got stitches inside and want to know what will happen to them. I also want to know if it is ok for me to do crunches and stuff that work out the abdominal muscles or if it will possibly bust the stitches open. Please Help!!

More than likely, the stitches willdissolve on their own. There is a special kind of stitch that has this capability. I would wait on doing crunches and working out the abdominal area until the doctor gives you the go ahead. I made the mistake of doing this after my operation and I was in more pain than I was right after the operation. The doctor told me to give it one month after surgery before doing abdominal workouts.

Well first I'll talk about your first query and that is What'll happen to your stitches?........... In surgeries, for suturing internal organs we use stitches of the material that is biodegradable....means which dissolves on its own in few weeks. So you need not worry about your stitches. Secondly after any abdominal surgeries, patients are advised to avoid heavy work for at least 3-4 months and that is to avoid opening up of stitches and to prevent burst abdomen in which internal organs protrude out. After 3-4 months you can go for little heavy work and gradually in a couple of years you can go back to your own wishes i.e; crunches and stuff like that.

You should not do any abdominal exercises for six weeks. This will give your stomach muscles enough time to heal. After that, go slow and listen to your body, aand you should be able to get back to your regular workout fairly quickly. The stitches your doctor used inside are dissolvable, so they will be absorbed by your body over the next few months.

I would advise not doing any abdominal exercises for at least 6 weeks. The danger in doing this would be ripping the stiches, getting an infection (Peritonitis) or worse case scenario, your insides on the outside (have seen it once before)

Don't worry about the stiches, they will dissolve gradually over 2 weeks.

To be perfectgly honest wait a bit longer.
I had mine out about 3 years ago and the stiches dissolve inside. But I went back to sport to ealry and now have adhesions [scar tissue] around my appendix scar. Which gets really painful. Wait a few weeks or so.

I would not do crunches just yet but you can do some light exercise. The stitches inside will dissolve on their own.

My younger sis also have appendix taken out last month....and doctor advice her to do not move fast, dont walk fast, and have very light diet till one month.(milk, bananas, other fruits)...and now after one month she is perfect...and join her college again..so its better for u to take rest for almost one month to heal up ur stitiches and they will atumatically absorve ..so u dont worry about this...
Take care of ur self
