Would that be part time? If so, fast food and restaurants are always looking for part-time workers. Retail sales can also be a good place to work. If you have specific interests in a career field, you might check out the possibility of internships. If you don't need the money, you might consider volunteer work just to build up a resume and get some practical experience.

If you are looking for long-term opportunities so that you can support yourself, then Job Corp is a good place to start. This is a federally funded program for people 16 to 24 years of age. It provides free housing, food, and medical plus a small allowance for incidentals. You can learn specific trades and practical skills for living on your own. They also allow you to earn a GED and perhaps a high school diploma. Some sites actually allow you to earn college credits as well.

Query "Job Corp" to learn more about this option. Perhaps a friend might be interested if you are not.

Grocery is a good place. Bagging. I did it. Not so bad. If you get into Kroger or Meijer or something, they have unions and after 3 months its hard to fire you for something such as slacking off. I know it sounds wrong but, hey, at 16 who wants to work as hard as they can for minimum wage? I know I didnt.
