For the first half of the 20th century, Korea was occupied by Japan. At the end of the World War II, the Korean peninsula was divided at the 38th parallel by the US and the USSR. This is the very definition of imperialism, as the Korean people didn't have a say in this matter, so definitely yes to that question.

As for wrong judgement, it could easily be argued that the Korean War could have been prevented by not dividing the peninsula in the first place.

The other possible mistake by the United States was not escalating the war and attacking North Korean supply lines in China. Instead of the UN/US forces winning a decisive victory, the Korean War ended with the cease-fire stalemate that still exists today. This decision also led to the firing of General Douglas MacArthur, who argued publicly against President Truman (unheard of in those days) and endorsed an escalation of the conflict.

In both of my examples, there are still many questions, so it's difficult to call them mistakes. How would the Soviet Union have reacted to the US refusing to partition the Korean Peninsula after WWII? Would an expansion of the Korean War drawn China, or even the USSR, into the conflict? It might have had a happy ending (united Korea, no nukes on the peninsula, etc), or it might have been the beginning of WW3.

Korea like Viet Nam ( I am a vet of) were all police actions, that were waged on behalf of the military industrial complex, in which Eisenhower warned us against.
