You definitely need to go to deal with it. It didn't hit me that my grandfather was dead until I went to his wake, and then I couldn't stop crying. But don't let that ward you off - it's important for you to deal with. After this event, maybe you can stop fearing death by simply knowing that your grandfather isn't in pain or disappeared from the universe, but rather his spirit is surviving with the other members of your family who have passed on. Good luck!

Do you have a close family relative, close friend, you could go with? For moral support?

I know when I was younger I didn't like going to wakes either, but I found if someone close came with me it didn't seem so bad.

Even if you go and only stay a half hour.

Sorry about your grandfather. :-( You will be fine. Just think of the peace that your grandfather is in now. Don't think about his death; think about his LIFE. Think that you'll see him again one day, and you'll be at peace with him (and with God) for eternity.

You may consider going so you don't regret it LATER :) but what would you Grandfather tell you to do?

This is a very difficult situation for anyone. I think you should go...this is your time to say bye...trust me, if you don't go you will regret it.
