Do a couple of years at the California Community Colleges first. If you are a California resident, the tuition at a community college is ridiculously cheap--I moved a few years ago, but at the time I lived there a class was only $11 a unit. So a typical 3 credit college class was only $33 for tuition. Get an AA or AS and then transfer.

Small, private Jesuit school. It's in a nice suburby area of SF. I'd say it's quite safe there. Pretty nice. Not in the heart of downtown with all the bars and clubs and stuff, but SF's not that big so it's not too hard to get to.

It's just ok. US news ranks it tied for 112. The last on the list. All the UCs are higher (cept Merced may be too new). UC Riverside is #88 and that traditionally has been the lowest UC.

Edit:

Hermes is sort of on point, but she's not too familiar with UCSF either. The school isn't free. It's just that it's a state school, so CA residents pay the lower in-state tuition. It's still not cheap, especially compared to what you pay for undergrad at the regular UCs. You save about $12,000 a year if you're a CA resident.

But yes, I never understood why anyone would pay private tuition for a mediocre school in California. I can understand it better in some other states where the state schools aren't so good, but CA has REALLY good public schools.

The people above that mentioned medical have USF confused with UCSF. University of San Francisco is a small Jesuit school with average academics, not that spectacular and it is probably much better to just go to a UC or a CSU (Why pay more for a private university when you can get better education at a better public university?)

UCSF is an excellent medical school, it is basically the medical school for UC Berkeley since both are so close to each other and professors travel between them back and forth. UCSF does not have undergrads. Their medical, dentistry and pharmacy schools are all in the top five in the nation. I believe applying to UCSF medical school is more competitive than Stanford Medical because the tuition is free at UCSF.

there is not any genuine "Pre-med" majors. you may have any significant yet with the intention to coach to med college and take the MCAT, you want to have a year of physics, a year of biology, and a year of organic and organic chemistry a minimum of. Any of the college's listed will do.
