Thongs are generally worn under tight, thin clothing or dresses because they do not show panty lines and are practically "invisible". But due to societal pressure and media today, girls often wear thongs as a way of showing sex appeal.

No VPL... (visible panty line)..
..also for me..comfort.. nothing worse than wearing 'granny panties' and have em creep up ya butt. lol lol Of course yes, they all don't...but when playing sport...just so much more comfort with a thong..
And finally up to the individual, and also the design of the panties of course... but sex appeal. When you have a lacy number on you can feel sexy. (Tho this can apply to normal briefs too...)
Just personal preference.

Well I wear them because regular panties climb up my rear end anyway, so why bother having to dig it out? Over the years I've gotten so used to it, I don't even know it's there. Plus, I hate panty lines.

Because it makes them feel sexy and it keeps from a panty line (underwear line) showing through some tight pants which isnt very appealing.

They want to look sexy i guess, although some say mo panylines and that it is more comfortable, i just don't think so...they just feel that wearing them makes them look sexy or something... or that the guy they are with will like it better than normal undies.
