The vet. Its especially dangerous for a cat to eat dog food. The nutrition and protein is totally off for them and could cause health problems that you don't want. The following link tells you why a little more scientifically than I have...

Your puppies food has too high of an *Ash content for the kitten... You have to what how much *Ash* a cat is getting because the ash content in the food they eat can and will affect their kidneys and in time cause kidney failure and you at that point either have to put them down or have them on Dialysis... Now the dog eating the kittens food isn't as much of a problem just not enough of it, unless it a very small dog it's not the right nutrient content for a puppy...However many a dog has lead a happy a full life of cat food... Just as long as they dont eat one another you'll be in the pink

Separate the foods. Dog food is for dogs and cat food is for cats. They're both different animals and if you let them eat each other's foods, it could eventually cause problems. You dog wants too eat mounds of Baker's Chocolate but that's not a good idea either ; ). Trust the vet. They know their stuff. That's the rule.

the vet.
the reason is because cat food is not very good for dogs (its really bad for puppies). Puppies need nutrients and other important factors which they won't get out of cat food. This is why they call that type of food "cat" food.
Your cat may also gain extra weight from the puppy food. Like with the puppy food their are nutrients that cats need more then dogs. So that is why there is different amounts of nutrients in puppy and cat food.

I don't know as much about dogs, but you can count on your cat to want to eat what it is not supposed to! Cats are pure carnivores, more carnivore than dogs, so I would say that your cat is likely to not get enough protein eating a dog's food, and the dog may not get its needs met with cat food. I don't know the specifics as to taurine differences etc., but I would say it's best if they don't share food. Easier said than done I know, since I had two cats on special diets, and they wanted each others's food even tho they sort of had the opposite problem -- my kitty with kidney disease needed less protein while my kitty with allergies needed less of the other stuff. Good luck!
Also, I agree about the ash stuff -- it's best to avoid food for both animals that are stuffed with ash and nasty byproducts, so they can be healthy. Cats with kidney failure can lives years following diagnosis despite vets wanting to pts, but ash can cause serious kidney stones and other nasties like that, which can be painful for the kitties.

Feed them in different rooms. Puppy food is made for pups and kitten is for kittens. Each has its own nutrition for the animal. PLus feeding them together one may over power the other and eat half or all its food.
