I spent my 5 years in college, 22 years in the USAF and now I am retired at 55... that's what education has done for me.

I believe education is the cornerstone of success. Unlike many people, I do not measure success with dollars. If my children grow up happy and healthy, I am successful. If my kids can read, write, and carry on a conversation intelligently, I feel successful. If I can have a positive impact on the lives of others, I am a success. However, without an education, I feel those accomplishments are out of reach.
Also, please do not confuse getting an education with going to school. They are not the same. I know an awful lot of people that spent 4-6 drunken years in college, doing nothing but wasting time and money for a piece of paper that says they were in school. For some of them, all those student loans and years in school gave them little more practical knowledge than where to buy beer, and the hydrodynamics of a keg and tap.
And another thing: the bigger named schools don't necessarily provide a better education. If you graduate from medical school in Podunk, Idaho, you are just as much a doctor as the guy from UCLA.

It's more important then the air, the sun and water. In NE Asian cultures education is very important. If the child do poorly at school, then it’s a lost of face for the parents and an embarrassment to the family.

You only find out how important a good education is when you don't have one.

On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being extremely important and 1 being not important at all. It is a 10. It is the key to many wonderful opportunities and experiences.

An education is something that no one can take away from you. It is freedom because you don't have to rely on anyone to take care of you. Education is freedom because you can do what you want to do. These days you need education beyond high school just to get along in life, pay bills, for entertainment, etc.

I went to school, Navy technical school, college.. taught school.. retired, and I still try to learn something new every day. No matter how much you think you know, there is still even more that you don't know that will amaze you.
Yeah, I'd say an education is very important.
