Does a person's name really matter, when pursuing a career as an actor?

When you get your first union job you will have to join the Screen Actors Guild. The name you are credited with must be unique. So, if there were another "Erica Gordon," even back in the 1950's, you would not be able to use it. You could use "Erica Nicole Gordon" if you wanted to be associated with the "3 name set," along with Sarah Jessica Parker, Sara Michelle Gellar, Anna Nicole Smith, etc., or change it entirely.

But, when casting, nobody considers your name. It will make no difference to whether you can get work and only have a very minor impact on your "celebrity" if you start to become famous.

I think the name is a bit too long. Maybe instead try Nicole Gordon or switch it up a bit with Nicki Gardenia.

In the industry, names are very important. Just look at all the celebrities who have stage names. There's probably more than we know!

Ok umm the name really doesnt matter and the only reason Tom Cruise changed his name is because nobody in the Screen Actor's Guild has the same name so having that name Erica really doesn't matter because nobody will have that name.

I wouldn't think so... a lot of actors/actresses change their names to more common names look at Tom Cruise for instance his last name is uncommon and he chnaged it to Cruise when he got in the business
