My PC will only turn on the fans, CD drives, hard drive, etc. but I have no video or sound. If I unplug the monitor from the PC and turn it on it displays no input available. Therefore I do not believe Monitor is the problem Can anyone tell me what to check? Is the motherboard dead?

Amanda is right. The beeps made when you turn on your PC can help you identify problems. A single beep is usually indicating things are OK. But a series of beeps is a code. If you are hearing a series of beeps, write down the pattern or number of beeps. You will need to refer to the manufacture for the codes and what they mean.

Can you let me know if you are getting beeps or not? If so, what? Do you see a display of text or anything when you first turn on the PC?

Yeah, that's definitely possible, but before you decide on that, give a few other suggestions a try.

First, try simply removing the graphics card and reinserting it. (Unless of course, it's an integrated graphics card, in which case this isn't going to be possible).

Another thing to try would be, if you have an extra video card laying around anywhere, even a cheap, old video card, plug it in place of the old one, and plug your monitor into that, and see if you get anything.

Try these things.

- Remove and reinstall the RAM.
- If you have more than one, try reinserting just one RAM module, then try one module in a different slot.
- remove the battery for a moment, and use the CLEAR CMOS RAM jumper for a moment. Then set things back to normal.

I have had an instance where the CPU chip went bad. But this is not likely.

Good luck and Happy Computing!

Yes a motherboard can be bad and still power devices.

The most common problem when a motherboard goes bad is the diodes burn out near the CPU.

If this happens, depending on which diode goes bad, you can lose video.

If there are any audible beeps when you turn on your computer, that can tell you what is wrong if you check your MB manual. If you get no beeps, it could be a bad motherboard or processor.
