Can people explain this gender divide?

I'm addicted to true confession websites. The other day a woman in her early 40s confessed to an embarrassing crush on her 13 year old next door neighbor. She didn't plan on taking this crush any further, for obvious reasons.

All the women who answered her said she was evil, sick and twisted, and thought she needed to go to jail, go to a mental hospital, get raped and get murdered for even thinking such a thing. They also thought she was most likely a man.

All the men who answered urged her to act on her desires, and said she would have been their ultimate fantasy at 13.

Why the difference in attitude? I've never heard a woman urging a man to molest a young teenage girl, or saying it was her greatest fantasy.

Is there a genuine difference between these two scenarios?

Yes, there is a "genuine" difference between the male and female reaction. The same is true for rape. A man raping a woman should go to jail, but if a guy gets raped by a woman he gets pats on the back for an exotic "freebie."

Is there a genuine difference between men and women? Yes! No one need be condemned for a fantasy. ( though the response may give the idea that difference feminists have about the nature of women a review ) The law and the evolved nature of humans can be two very different things. As you may have surmised, women and men have a slightly different view of sex. Dimorphism would suggest enough to explain the above differences. Differences in evolved reproductive strategies would complete the explanation. Book for you; " The Peacocks Tail ", by Helena Cronin. Good primer on sexual selection theory and why it can cause problems between men and women in today's world." The Evolution of Human Sexuality ", by Donald Symons, is also helpful.

PS My dear Baba Yaga, I NEVER confuse individuals and populations. But, we study populations and deal with individual people; one at a time. Of course, phenotype is product of genotype and environment; you just have to be careful about what constitutes the environment. Durkheim and Boas both had that problem.

Well, its a social issue. In our society, women are precious things, especially when they are young (by which I mean they are sheltered from the "evil" world).

The woman in her 40's who had a crush on the 13 year old boy was not the target of the mens praise, they were rooting for the boy. Its quite a "conquest" to sleep with someone old than you, even ... that much older.

This harkens back to the fact that men are the predators in the human sexual field (or, that is how society has taught the young men to act, rather). This is why homophobia is much stronger in men than women, on average. And, as well, why women who "sexually prey" on the men are considered "weird". (ala, the whole overweight coworker incident above.)

Obama seems at the two genders and tries troublesome to comprehend that girls folk have specific actual subject concerns that adult men don't have because of the fact they are those that get pregnant, they are those that nurture toddlers extra and that they are those that are statistically poorer than adult men. Obama represents the recent international; Romney represents the previous college that catered purely for adult men; regularly. Obviously there is, I would not condone a 40 year old and a 13 year old, no matter what the combination, man - child, woman - child, the equation is still unacceptable.

It has nothing to do with biology and everything to do with societal constructs of what behavior is and isn't acceptable. It's the double-standard at work.

"Anna C' is discussing an individual, specifically "a woman in her early 40s" and the women and men who saw this story and responded on this cheesy 'true confessions' website. This particular population have their own characteristics. It was a non-scientific 'opinion poll'. You know as well as I that the respondents are NOT representative of the general population. Too many variables confounding the poll "results". Equally important: the sample size was far too small for the 'findings' to be of any use in a more general sense.

You lose: the only article having anything whatsoever to do with a woman 'raping' a man was the Norweigan Article. The Norweigan court defined 'rape' as:

"The rape conviction applies to an act of oral sex begun on a sleeping man".

The nbc 'thing' consists of a photo of a woman and the heading underneath says "Barnhart was arrested in Denver, Colo., in March 2005 and , accused of having a sexual relationship with her underage male student". This person wasn't convicted anything at all, nevermind 'rape'! YOU ACTUALLY MADE UP YOUR OWN 'HEADLINE". You are utterly pathetic - and obviously very desperate.

Although I guess the specific word 'rape' is never mentioned and only 'had sex with' and 'felony sexual assault on a child' mean "nah not really rape" and we mustn't forget who refuses to accept rock solid evidence.. in this case that the word 'rape' is not specifically mentioned or doesn't involve a man as the perpetrator, so must be a crank.

One day, I needed a ride home.
It was raining and everybody else had other plans.
The Big woman at the restaraunt offered to give me a ride.
I didn't want to go with her, but I couldn't refuse.
So, she drove me home.
Then stopped in the driveway for small talk.
She even put her hand on mine.
I never asked and never will get a ride from her again.

That always happens to me getting my hair cut. I get the nastiest one. Then she rubs herself on the hand rail where my hand is.

It is always the fat chix. The hot ones are getting laid.
